When Stella McCartney showcased big bottom bikinis three years back, fashion editors laughed at it calling it, Oh-so-Bridget Jones. McCartney, however, was too early to predict the comeback of non-skimpy swimwear, which is all a rage this season.
Although a lot of designers including Michael Kors and Donatella Versace have long been trying to promote the shape, but the ‘big pants’ really clicked when they were endorsed recently by avant garde designer Miuccia Prada.
Uma Thurman recently wore a retro-style two-piece as she holidayed in the Caribbean earlier this year, and the style has now become a rage with women who wouldn’t venture near the teeny bikinis or slashed and cut-out swimsuits. The style has become so famous that Topshop’s high-waisted bikini range has already sold out.
A reason for the popularity of the style is that the swimwear is quite forgiving, even if you have an unflattering figure. They allow anyone with a wobbly tummy to walk along the beach with utmost confidence and pride.
The Topshop sell-out suggests that one should already be hunting for this summer’s desirable beachwear as leaving it for the last minute shopping can be really risky.
